One of the key differences among those playing at the highest level of golf is the consistent power they display when teeing off. A recent GOLF Magazine article focused on tips from professional Dustin Johnson, famous as a long ball driver, in achieving maximum distance. One critical aspect to pay attention to is the setup, which involves ensuring that the feet, hips, and shoulders are in proper alignment. Slightly widening their stance, with the feet just outside the shoulders, players should feel their shoulders subtly tilt, right under left. This allows for a faster, not necessarily harder, swing, without losing balance. As Johnson sees it, it’s important to keep a little in reserve, as too aggressive a swing often means failing to connect properly with the ball. When players emphasize control over outright force, the center of the club face is more likely to strike the ball, driving it to its maximum distance.
